Sahaja yoga includes meditation and puja and it was developed by Nirmala Srivastava. The term sahaja also refers to the innovative religious movement that was founded by Nirmala not only the practice of yoga.
Since 1970 when sahaja yoga was started to be taught it has been promoted by the Sahaja Yoga organization. It is said to unite the main core values of all the different religions known before but in a bit altered version.
Sahaja yoga was born in India, but developed further and achieved its nowadays philosophy in England where Nirmala moved in the beginning of the 1970s. From there on it has spread all over the world and has opened many sahaja yoga centers internationally.
Sahaja yoga is also spread through the internet as from the homepage of Sahaja Yoga organization it is possible to get the methods necessary for practicing this type of yoga free of charge. Still, people have to pay for certain pujas.
Sahaja yoga has one very special sphere where it is used and that is the prisons. More precisely in Italy and United States it was taught to the inmates to help them recover psychologically and spiritually as well as to improve their social skills.
