Hatha yoga is a specific yoga system that was introduced by Yogi Swatmarama in the 15th century India. The name Hatha is compounded of two words Ha and Tha, respectively meaning the sun and the moon.
Hatha yoga is a preparatory stage in cleansing your physical body that also keeps your body in shape through practicing higher level of meditation. Actually, hatha yoga is a very strong practice for purification of the body, the mind and the soul. This type of yoga also follows the same principles like the Raaja yoga.
When people in Western world are talking about yoga in general, most often they mean hatha yoga as it is practiced quite widely to take care of the physical and mental health and it is one of the best known yoga types. Traditional hatha yoga follows a quite predetermined yogic path as it is quite disciplined, both in the physical exercises as well as in meditation. The hatha yoga practiced in the Western world usually included postures and exercises.
Hatha yoga focuses on the physical culture, similarly to Raaja yoga. Those both yoga types can be referred to as the Ashtanga yoga, more precisely yoga consisting of eight parts that are focused on by doing different poses.
