1If its for your back I'd say go via yoga first as it will stretch it and out limber it up - T'ai Chi can mean a more extended time on your feet and if you have a bad back it can stress it a bit unless you are ready for it. Maybe do yoga for 3 months and then venture into Tai Chi.
